The hope of former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, ex-Akwa lbom Gov. Godswill Akpabio to contest the APC senatorial Akwa-Ibom North/West District senatorial seat in the 2023 polls was dashed on Monday as the Appeal Court in Abuja disqualified him.

The court handed down the judgment  on Monday evening after an appeal against a Federal High Court ruling on September 15, 2022, ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission (lNEC) to recognize Akpabio as the APC Senatorial candidate for the district.

The court ordered the electoral umpire to accept and publish Akpabio’s name as APC senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom North/West senatorial district in 2023.

In the judgment, Justice Emeka Nwite held that INEC acted illegally by refusing to accept and publish Akpabio’s name after it was sent by APC.

Persecondnews recalls that Akpabio, who contested the presidential primary of the APC in June 2022 lost to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The Senatorial primary was held simultaneously with that of the presidential aspirants and a place holder was announced to hold the position for him
