In a spurt of anger, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has fatally stabbed a fellow ASP in Argungu, Kebbi State.

The brawling ASP Abdullahi Garba and ASP Shu’aibu Sani Malunfashi became an eye-catching public display in the streets of Argungu, Persecondnews reports.

Garba, who was the officer in charge of Sauwa Police post, had an altercation with Malunfashi, who was also an ASP and the Divisional Crime Officer II, Argungu Divisional Police Headquarters, inside fishing village — Argungu.

During the fight, Garba used a pair of scissors to stab Malunfashi to death in the full glare of the people right in front of his (Garba’s) shop.

“The two officers engaged in a free-for-all and in the process, Garba brought  scissors and stabbed ASP Shu’aibu Sani Malunfashi on his left ribs.

“He was rushed to a hospital in Birnin Kebbi, where he was confirmed dead,” a police source said.

According to the police, the Divisional Police Officer, Argungu, raced to the scene of the incident, arrested Garba and recovered the exhibit (scissors).

He rushed ASP Malunfashi to Sir Yahaya memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi but he didn’t make it.

Meanwhile, the suspect, ASP Garba has been detained at the State Criminal and Investigations Department, Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

The case has also been transferred to Homicide Section for a “discreet investigation” to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The State Police Commissioner Ahmed Magaji Kontagora has sent a team of senior Police Officers to condole with the family and prayed that may the soul of Malunfashi rest in perfect peace.

He condemned the misconduct of the senior officers, saying it violates their training, Police Act and Regulations as well as other relevant laws of the Federation.

Kontagora also urged officers and men of the command to always live in peace with one another and report their grievances to the appropriate sections within the Force for redress instead of resorting to self-help.
