A new Deputy Governor has been appointed in Oyo State.

He is Mr Adebayo Lawal, a lawyer and one-time State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

He replaces Chief Rauf Olaniyan, who was impeached on Monday morning by the Oyo State House of Assembly.

Persecondnews reports that Gov. Seyi Makinde had nominated Lawal for the approval by the House to replace Olaniyan.

Lawal, who hails from Kisi in Irepo council area, had also served as the Chairman of the State Housing Corporation.

Reading a letter from the governor nominating Lawal, the Speaker, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin, said it was in response to an earlier letter sent by the House to the governor dated July 18, 2022 conveying to him Olaniyan’s  impeachment.

While lauding Lawal’s nomination, the Majority Leader, Mr Sanjo Adedoyin, urged his colleagues to approve his candidature, citing his contributions to the development of the state.

The motion which was seconded by Assembly man Kazeem Olayanju (Irepo/Olornsogo State Constituency) was put into voice vote by the Speaker Ogundoyin and was unanimously approved by the lawmakers.

The Speaker thereafter adjourned sitting until Thursday, July 21.
