Ex-Ogun Deputy Governor allegedly steals C of O of property in Lagos, takes possession

257

For allegedly stealing a Certificate of Occupancy of a property at Opebi, Lagos, a former Deputy Governor of Ogun, Olusegun Adesegun, was on Thursday hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court.

The C of O which belongs to a retiree was deposited at the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Cooperation office (NDIC), Lagos, where it was stolen by the ex-Deputy Governor.

On conviction, Adesegun risks seven years in jail, according to Sections 52, 53, 290 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Persecondnews recalls that Adesegun had served both in the administration of ex-Gov. Olusegun Osoba (as Commissioner for Works and Housing) and ex-Gov. Ibikunle Amosun (as deputy governor from 2011 to 2015).

Adesegun is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, concealing deeds, forcible entry and forcible possession to which he entered a plea of “not-guilty”.

The former Deputy Governor had conspired with others still on the run to steal the Certificate of Occupancy with No. 68/68/1994 tittle document kept with the NDIC belonging to Mr Babatunde Oderinde, a retiree.

He also entered illegally the parcel of land located at No 2, Osilaja St., Opebi- Oregun link road, Lagos, belonging to Oderinde in a manner likely to cause breach of peace, according to Police Prosecutor Victor Eruada.

Eruada, a superintendent of police, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between 2003 and 2017 at the NDIC Office, Lagos.

“The defendant in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace, entered the land, took possession of the parcel of land.”

Following Adesegun’s not-guilty plea, Magistrate M.O. Tanimola admitted him to a bail of N100,000 with two sureties, who must provide evidence of tax payment in Lagos State.

The court fixed May 17, May 20 and May 27, 2022 for the accelerated hearing of the case.
