The Zamfara State House of Assembly has confirmed Senator Muhammad Hassan Nasiha as the new Deputy Governor of the state, few hours after the impeachment of the State’s deputy governor, Mahdi Aliyu-Gusau.

His confirmation followed a screening by the lawmakers on Wednesday, after the

Speaker of the House, Nasiru Mua’zu, at the resumed plenary read a letter from Governor Bello Matawalle nominating Senator Muhammad as his deputy.

Senator Hassan is currently representing Zamfara Central Senatorial District in the Senate.

Persecondnews.com had earlier reported that Aliyu-Gusau was impeached during plenary on Wednesday, shortly after the House received the report of the committee set up by the State Chief Judge, Justice Kulu Aliyu, to investigate the “allegations” against him.

A seven-man impeachment probe panel, led by retired Justice Halidu Soba, had submitted its report on Monday to the Speaker of the House.

Allegations leveled against the impeached deputy governor include breach of the Constitution, gross misconduct, financial fraud, abuse of office and failure to perform assigned duties.

During the voting session, 20 of the 23 lawmakers voted in favour of Aliyu-Gusau’s impeachment.
