Contrary to the statement of Attorney General of the Federation and Justice Minister, Malam Abubakar Malami, President Muhammadu Buhari is not contemplating a state of emergency in Anambra State.

Anambra Gov. Willie Obiano made the clarification after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He said the President Muhammadu Buhari was not in support of a state of emergency in state to curtail the worsening insecurity.

“President Buhari assured that he is only interested in free and fair election in the November 6 governorship exercise in the state,” Obiano told State House correspondents.

Persecondnews had reported that the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had threatened that the federal government might declare a state of emergency in the state ahead of the November 6 polls.

Obiano said he had reported Malami to the President for suggesting a possible declaration of emergency rule in the state.

He described Malami‘s statement as unfortunate, questioning why he has not imposed emergency rule in Northern states, where there have been a lot of killings.

“Apart from the recent security crisis, Anambra state has been the most peaceful in the Southeast.”
