The death of a one-time Military Governor of old Oyo State, retired Man.- Gen. ldowu Adetunji Olurin, has thrown his country home, Ilaro in Ogun State, into grief.
Aged 77 years, Olurin, who governed Oyo from 1985-1988, died in the early hours of Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) during a brief illness.
He is survived by a wife and children.
Persecondnews reports that the late Olurin, who was born in Ilaro on December 3,1944, also served as the Sole Administrator of Ekiti State in the administration of Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo following the impeachment of Gov. Ayodele Fayose.
He was the Field Commander of the ECOMOG Peace keeping Force in Liberia from 1992 to 1993 and was an alumnus of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Like other retired Army Generals, Olurin also took to farming and made a foray into politics by joining the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on which platform he contested the Ogun governorship election in 2011.
He, however, lost to Gov. Ibikunle Amosun of the APC.
