“Nigeria is not just a rat village, it is a nation and we want to keep it as one,” so declared Asiwaju BolaTinubu at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday.

Tinubu, who is the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), spoke against the backdrop of calls for secession by Yoruba from the geographical expression called Nigeria.

He spoke when he led a delegation of some Yoruba leaders to visit President Muhammadu Buhari to condole with him over last Friday’s air crash in Kaduna which claimed the lives of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 other officers.

Tinubu was accompanied by the Interim Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, by former governor of Ogun State, Chief Segun Osoba, former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Alani Akinrinade (Rtd.); and Chief Pius Akinyelure.

Restating his aversion to the call for secession, the former Lagos Governor (1999-2007) said, “he is for a united Nigeria.”

“We have already made our position clear; that we want a one, united, peaceful, stable country. Productive and promising.”

On the significance of the visit, Tinubu said the delegation was in Aso Rock to commiserate with President Buhari over the air crash.

“it’s a national loss, it’s demoralizing, it’s disheartening, it’s sad…we are here to rub minds with him too, to see commitment to humanity.”
