Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) will arrive in Owerri later today to inaugurate the Dick Tiger Road.

Persecondnews learnt that VP Yemi Osinbajo, while in the state, may not visit the Imo State Police Command and the Federal Correctional facility (prisons) that were attacked midnight Monday by some gunmen suspected to belonging to a separatist group operating in the Southeast.

The project is part of activities marking one year in office of Imo Gov. Hope Uzodinma.

The hitherto flood-prone, dilapidated and abandoned Dick Tiger Road, spanning about 3km, its rehabilitation by the governor has opened up the area to socio-economic activities.

Prof. Osinbajo had weeks ago attended a thanksgiving service in the state capital to kick off the anniversary.

The governor had indicated at the service that the Vice-President would be returning to the state to inaugurate some milestone projects.

However, Imo State Government officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the VP had been invited to the state before the violent attacks of Monday and that visits to the mayhem sites were not on the itinerary of the Vice-President as at this morning.

The Vice-President is expected to return to Abuja later today after the one day visit.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari, currently in London for medical checkup, had condemned the deadly insurgent attack that took place on the Police Command Headquarters and the Correctional Facility in Owerri, on Monday, calling it an act of terrorism.

Buhari, in a statement signed by his spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, commended the initial response by security guards and security forces for preventing greater loss of life and the destruction of public property.

“The President directed security and intelligence agencies in the state and the geo-political zone to fully mobilize and go after the terrorists, apprehend them and get them punished under the full weight of the law.

“He also called for the best efforts to be made to rearrest fleeing prison detainees, many of whom are believed to be deadly criminals.

“President Buhari then appealed to members of the public to assist the law enforcement agencies with any relevant information that could lead to the apprehension of these criminals who perpetrated this despicable act.

“He also urged members of the public to be vigilant as all of us have a stake in preserving our way of life from disruption by terrorists and anarchists while the Federal Government will use every available tool at its disposal to confront and terminate this bare-faced anarchy,’’ the statement said.
