The man, who presided over President Muhammadu Buhari’s election in 2015, has taken a swipe at his nearly sixth year rule, saying governance has been poor.

The erstwhile Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Attahiru Jega, said the Buhari administration had performed dismally, below the expectations of “so many Nigerians”.

Scoring the administration very low, Jega said: “He (Buhari) has disappointed so many people. He still has time to correct things if he has the capacity to do that.

“Frankly, his government has been very disappointing.”

Jega, who called the shots as INEC boss from 2010 to 2015 under President Goodluck Jonathan of PDP, said governance has been wobbling at the federal level particularly and in many states.

Persecondnews recalls that Jega organized national election that saw his appointor defeated by the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the first in the country’s political history.

Jonathan had taken it in his strides and accepted defeated against pressures to stay on.

“Governance has been very poor at the federal level and many of the states and that is why we are seeing challenges everywhere.

“Whether it is insurgency, banditry, armed robbery or other things.”

Jega, a former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, noted for his astuteness, discipline and frankness, noted that Buhari was lucky to have enjoyed “goodwill” from many Nigerians.

“Buhari enjoys goodwill from many Nigerians, but citizens are worried about the direction the country is taking,” he said.
