Coronavirus cases rise in Nigeria as lockdown eases

Part of Nigeria’s success in blunting the spread of a coronavirus outbreak had been a fierce lockdown — the largest in Africa, with over 200 million people under the restrictions. But the government has loosened the rules over the past few days, drawing people into the streets.

And now the contagion is beginning to spread more aggressively.

NCDC officials confirmed 416 new cases and 12 deaths on Monday. Total confirmed cases is now 10,578
