Ndoma-Egba Rejects Election Result for Cross River Central Senatorial District

958

The candidate representing the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the race for Cross River Central Senatorial District, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, has rejected the outcome of the election that had INEC announce the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Sandy Onor as winner.

INEC had announced that Dr. Sandy of PDP got 80,126 votes while APC’s Ndoma-Egba got 60,298 votes.
A statement by the Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba Campaign Organization described the result as a truncation of the will of the people of Cross River Central Senatorial District.

” To the best of our knowledge, elections in Etung LGA were cancelled by INEC while the results of three wards of Obubra LGA namely Ofodua, Osopong 2, Ofumbongha/Yala were also cancelled. The results of elections in Boki remain hotly contested as elections did not hold due to non-deployment of Card Readers for accreditation. It is significant to note that the total registered votes in the affected areas are far in excess of the margin between the two leading candidates. As a result of these and other reasons, the elections remain inconclusive, the campaign said.
” In view of the above issues, which affected the credibility of the elections, we outrightly reject the purported announcement of results and declaration of a winner at this stage of the process. We, therefore, demand that INEC relies on precedents and relevant provisions in the Electoral Act and its own Guidelines for the 2019 Elections to conduct rerun elections in the affected areas.
” We request INEC to do the right thing, let the discerning people of the Cross River Central Senatorial District decide their fate and give legitimacy to the electoral process.
