Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has identified Nigerians living abroad as potential drivers of investment, business partnerships and stronger economic relations between Nigeria and Spain.
Ikpeazu highlighted the opportunities during the 16th anniversary celebration of Ndi Abia in Diaspora, Valencia Chapter, where he attended as Special Guest of Honour on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
The ambassador described diaspora communities as valuable national assets, serving as cultural bridges, investment promoters and informal representatives whose activities can influence economic and diplomatic relations.
He encouraged members of the Valencia chapter to explore opportunities that could benefit their host community while contributing to development efforts in Abia State.

The former Abia governor urged the community to maintain unity, support one another and engage positively with Spanish society while preserving their Nigerian identity.
Ikpeazu, who assumed office as Nigeria’s envoy to Spain in September 2026 after presenting his Letters of Credence to King Felipe VI, pledged the Embassy’s continued support for Nigerians living in the country.
He assured the community that the Embassy would work harmoniously with Nigerians in Spain to address issues affecting them and strengthen people-to-people relations between both countries.
On his part, Mr Endy Okoroafor, Chairman of Ndi Abia in Diaspora, Valencia, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to unity and mutual support among Abia indigenes.
Okoroafor also disclosed that the association, formerly known as Abia State Congress in Diaspora, had secured formal registration after facing difficulties under previous administrations.
He called for greater participation among members, emphasising the Igbo principle of Onye Aghala Nwanne Ya — let no one leave their brother behind.
