Nigeria’s Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says it is investigating two suspected cases of Ebola disease in the North-East, with both individuals isolated as laboratory testing and contact tracing get underway.
The NCDC made this known in an update shared on its official X page on Saturday.
According to the agency, contact identification and listing were ongoing while laboratory investigations were being conducted.
The agency clarified that the two individuals had not been confirmed to have Ebola, stating that “being classified as suspected cases does not mean they are confirmed Ebola cases; confirmation is subject to laboratory results.”
The NCDC advised Nigerians to maintain good hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and follow guidance from public health authorities.
“Further updates would be provided as verified information becomes available,” it noted.
PerSecondNews recalls Nigeria’s first confirmed Ebola case in the current outbreak was recorded on October 20, 2026, involving a 42-year-old woman who tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus.
The patient was evacuated to Switzerland on October 26 after her condition improved.
The NCDC’s October 29 situation report identified 62 contacts linked to the index case, an increase from the 54 contacts reported on October 26, following the identification of eight additional contacts.
