The power of intelligence-sharing and coordinated security operations must remain central to Nigeria’s fight against criminality, NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa has said.
Marwa made the call while commending the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS and other security agencies for the safe rescue of 20 prospective corps members and another abductee.
He described the rescue as a victory for Nigeria, saying coordinated, intelligence-driven operations had demonstrated what security agencies could achieve when working together.
“The safe return of these young Nigerians to their families is a testament to the courage, professionalism and unity of purpose of our security agencies,” Marwa said in a statement emailed to PerSecondNews on Thursday by Mr Femi Babafemi, NDLEA Director, Media and advocacy.
Marwa, who served in the military before his appointment as NDLEA chairman, urged Nigerians to recognise and commend the achievements of the nation’s security agencies under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration.
“It is imperative for us to draw public attention to this kind of achievement by our security agencies and equally commend them,” he noted.
The NDLEA Boss urged Nigerians to recognise the achievements of security agencies, particularly the successful rescue operations carried out across the country in recent months.
“Every life rescued is a triumph for our collective resolve. These operations show that criminals cannot outrun a determined and united security architecture.”
He assured security agencies of NDLEA’s continued cooperation, particularly through intelligence-sharing and joint operations to tackle networks linked to criminality.
“Where drugs flow, insecurity thrives. That is why the NDLEA will keep working with sister agencies to dismantle the networks that fund and fuel criminality.”
Marwa urged security agencies to sustain the momentum and called on Nigerians to provide timely and credible information to support security operations.
He also wished the rescued corps members a speedy recovery and successful reunion with their families.
PerSecondNews recalls that the 20 prospective corps members and another passenger were abducted on October 1, 2026, while travelling from Ibadan to NYSC orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom States.
The two buses came under attack near Umunoha in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, along the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway.
Security agencies later located the kidnappers’ camp through drone surveillance before rescuing the victims on October 7 at Amakohia Ubi Village, Imo State, after sustained search-and-rescue operations.
