Air Peace operations at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja ground to a halt on Tuesday amid joint picketing by key aviation labor bodies.
Industry unions, including the NLC, TUC, ATSSSAN, and NUATE, restricted access to the carrier’s departure terminals, stranding travelers.
According to union representatives, the protest addresses Air Peace’s alleged failure to remit roughly ₦15 billion in mandatory Ticket Sales Charges (TSC) to government agencies, alongside ongoing disputes regarding employee unionization rights.
Air Peace spokesperson Efe Osifo-Whiskey stated that union blockades at Lagos and Abuja airports temporarily halted operations and grounded departing flights.
Protesters blocked passenger access to Terminal 1 (Alpha and Zulu) and Terminal 2 in Lagos, alongside the airline’s facilities at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
“The blockade has restricted access to these terminals, preventing the departure of scheduled flights from Lagos and Abuja. Consequently, passengers scheduled to travel across our network have been significantly affected by the disruption to flight operations,” Osifo-Whiskey said.
“Air Peace sincerely apologises to all affected and stranded passengers for the disruption and inconvenience caused by circumstances beyond the airline’s control.
“Passengers scheduled to travel later today are being contacted and provided with relevant updates as the situation evolves.”
Air Peace added that it will continue to closely monitor developments and will provide further updates as necessary.
The airline said it appreciates the patience and understanding of its passengers as it navigates this situation.
