Afrobeat legend, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face, has paid tribute to veteran Nigerian singer Daddy Showkey, describing him as an important figure in his musical journey.
2Face spoke at the 50 years on stage celebration of Daddy Showkey held on Sunday at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
PerSecondNews reports that the event brought together music stars from the older and younger generations to celebrate Daddy Showkey’s contribution to Nigerian music and his lasting influence on the entertainment industry.
The celebration also highlighted the legacy of the Galala music and dance movement, which Daddy Showkey helped popularise in Nigeria.
Speaking at the event covered by Persecondnews crew, 2Face said he would never forget the impact Daddy Showkey had on his life and career, recalling a memorable gesture from the veteran artiste.
According to him, Daddy Showkey was the first person who gave him $100, a gesture he said remained unforgettable to him.
2Face described Showkey as a generous and influential figure whose contribution to the Nigerian music industry extended beyond his music.
The celebration attracted a wide range of artistes, reflecting Daddy Showkey’s influence across different generations of Nigerian musicians.
Among those who graced the event were Teni, Sunny Neji, W4, African China, Korede Bello and the Danfo Drivers, among several other entertainers.
The 50 years on stage celebration therefore served as a gathering of artistes and fans to honour Daddy Showkey’s musical journey, his contribution to the Galala movement and the legacy he has built over the years.
