Barcelona have signed lightning-quick forward Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund for a reported fee of 29 million euros ($33 million) including potential add-ons, with the versatile 24-year-old committing to the club until June 2031.
The move represents Barcelona’s second major signing of the summer window following the arrival of England international Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
The 24-year-old’s blistering pace and positional flexibility — able to lead the attack or play on either wing — will significantly strengthen the Blaugrana’s forward line.
It comes after the club parted ways with long-time striker Robert Lewandowski and saw Marcus Rashford return to Manchester United at the end of his loan, creating a noticeable gap in attacking options.
Barcelona have continued their busy summer by placing a bid for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, who is understood to be their main target this transfer window.
Adeyemi’s international career took off in 2021 when current Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick selected him for his Germany debut.
Prior to joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022, he had already shown promise, and during four seasons in Germany he contributed 36 goals in 146 appearances in all competitions.
The Catalan club made the announcement official on Thursday via a statement confirming the five-year contract.

Flick mixes sustained possession with quick transitions and counter-attacks, using fluid front-three rotations in structures resembling 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 variations.
Wingers often operate narrowly or invert, full-backs provide width or underlaps, and attackers are expected to crash the box while contributing to the first line of pressing.
Adeyemi’s versatility allows Flick multiple deployment options: Right Winger (Primary Role): His natural position.
He can rest or rotate with Lamine Yamal while offering a direct inside threat on his stronger left foot. This gives Yamal recovery time without sacrificing dynamism.
Central Striker: In setups needing more vertical pace (especially post-Robert Lewandowski and Marcus Rashford’s exit), Adeyemi can lead the line.
His runs stretch compact blocks, complementing creators like Yamal or a potential Julian Alvarez signing.
Pairing him with Anthony Gordon on the opposite wing creates two explosive wide threats.
Experts such as former Barcelona midfielder Gaizka Mendieta have noted the fit explicitly:
