More than a year after the collapse of her marriage to music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, actress Annie Macaulay has continued to retain “Idibia” on her social media platforms, reigniting conversations about the decision.
Checks by Persecondnews on Saturday showed that despite the public end of their marriage, Annie has yet to remove the surname from her Instagram and other social media accounts, a move that has continued to intrigue fans and followers.
The development comes as both former partners appear to have charted different paths.
While Annie has been linked in rumours to a prominent Lagos-based fashion enthusiast, 2Baba has since moved on with Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru, whom he married after announcing the end of his marriage to Annie.
Annie has also maintained a studied silence over the collapse of her marriage.
More than a year after the separation became public, the actress has neither granted an interview nor issued a detailed public statement addressing the breakup, a decision that has further fueled public curiosity over her reasons for retaining the Idibia surname.
Although Annie has never publicly explained why she still bears the Idibia name, many believe the surname has evolved into a personal and commercial brand after years of being associated with one of Nigeria’s most celebrated celebrity marriages.
Others also argue that changing the name may not be an easy decision, considering the identity and recognition she has built around it in the entertainment industry over the years.
Beyond branding, some close observers believe Annie’s decision could also be influenced by the emotional investment she made in the relationship.
Throughout their marriage, she repeatedly spoke about standing by 2Baba during his early struggles before he attained global fame.
The former couple endured years of public turbulence, with allegations of infidelity, family disagreements and emotional exchanges frequently dominating headlines and social media conversations.
Their marriage eventually crumbled after years of speculation, with 2Baba publicly announcing their separation while Annie was reportedly undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation facility following a difficult period in her personal life.
The exact nature of the treatment was never officially disclosed.
The announcement generated widespread reactions, with many fans criticising the timing of the revelation, while others expressed sympathy for Annie.
Since then, the actress has largely kept a low profile, making selective public appearances and gradually returning to social activities and professional engagements.
On Saturday, Annie was among the celebrities who joined Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage for the singer’s “Energy Walk” through the streets of Lagos, organised to promote her latest single, Energy.
Videos from the outing showed Annie smiling, dancing and interacting warmly with Tiwa Savage and other participants, projecting an image of confidence and renewed energy that quickly drew positive reactions online.
Her appearance also sparked fresh discussions about her personal journey, with many fans describing her as resilient and focused on embracing life despite the highly publicised end of her marriage.
While Annie has remained silent on the reasons for retaining the Idibia name, her latest public appearance suggests she is embracing a new chapter with optimism, even as public fascination with her past relationship with 2Baba continues to endure.
