Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of French defender Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool on a four-year contract, marking a significant addition to their backline ahead of the new season.

The 27-year-old centre-back, who is currently representing France at the World Cup, will join Los Blancos on a deal that runs until June 30, 2030.

The Spanish club announced the agreement on Thursday after the player’s contract at Anfield expired.

Konate moved to Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 and went on to make 183 appearances for the club.

During his time at Anfield, he helped the team win the Premier League title in 2025 and the FA Cup in 2022, along with other major honours.

His arrival comes as Real Madrid continue to reshape their squad under new head coach Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager was appointed earlier this summer as the club seeks to end a trophyless run that has now stretched across two consecutive seasons.

To support the rebuild, Real Madrid have also completed the signings of Spain left-back Marc Cucurella and Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva.

Both players have already been integrated into the squad as Mourinho looks to inject fresh quality and experience.

The club is further linked with a move for Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries as they continue to strengthen key areas of the team.

The pursuit of Dumfries forms part of a wider overhaul aimed at restoring Real Madrid’s dominance in domestic and European competitions.

In defence, Real Madrid have secured continuity by extending the contract of centre-back Antonio Rudiger until 2027.

The German international remains a key figure in the backline following the departures of long-serving players Dani Carvajal and David Alaba, whose contracts expired at the end of last season.

With Konate now on board and Mourinho at the helm, Real Madrid are signalling clear intent to rebuild a competitive squad capable of challenging for major trophies once again.

The club’s summer activity reflects a deliberate strategy to blend experience with new talent across the pitch.
