In a move to strengthen civic and political engagements ahead of 2027 polls, a New Obidient Movement Worldwide has formally announced its reorganization and a relaunch, reports Persecondnews.

At a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Global Coordinator Dr. Barry Avotu Johnson detailed the organization’s evolution from a post-EndSARS civic movement into a major political force.

He highlighted that the movement—originally partnered with the National Rescue Movement—became a household name through its endorsement of Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential race.

According to him, the movement has now been restructured to restore its founding ideals and reposition for the 2027 elections.

“Today, we stand before the world in Abuja to make a historic declaration on the future of democratic participation, youth inclusion, leadership renewal, and national transformation,” Persecondnews correspondent at the event quotes Johnson as saying.

According to him, the movement has entered a new phase of restructuring.

“Effective immediately, the movement is entering a new era of rebranding, restructuring, reconciliation, and renewed vision ahead of the 2027 general elections.”

Johnson announced a new leadership structure, naming himself as the International Coordinator while Mallam Nasir Baba serves as Secretary, with further appointments expected after consultations.

PersecondNews reports that the group also disclosed plans for a national convention in Abuja, which will bring together representatives from polling units, wards, local government areas, states, regional structures, national leadership, and diaspora chapters.

It clarified that no presidential candidate has been adopted for the 2027 elections, stressing that its decision will follow due process in line with INEC guidelines and the Electoral Act.

Johnson also called on the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure a fair democratic environment ahead of the elections and urged authorities to review cases involving individuals arrested during the EndSARS and End bad governance protests.

In a strong remark, Johnson cautioned against what he described as disrespectful conduct within political discourse, stating that supporters who insult others in the name of politics would not be tolerated.

He described such individuals as “rascals and unruly,” stressing that the movement is built on discipline, civility, and responsible engagement.

According to him, the New Obedient Movement remains a people-driven platform-focused on national unity, democratic reform, and youth empowerment, rather than personal political interests.
Johnson reaffirmed that the movement is committed to peaceful democratic engagement, national reconciliation, and building a leadership culture anchored on discipline, accountability, and civic responsibility ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The unveiling of the new structure marks a fresh beginning for the movement,” he noted, stressing that its focus going forward is to strengthen democratic participation and restore confidence in leadership across Nigeria.
