Panic gripped Sapele on Friday night as a heavily armed tactical team of kidnappers snatched Council Chairman Chief Bright Abeke.

Witnesses describe a scene of terror at a hotel along Owumi Road, where about 15 gunmen launched a targeted strike.

Arriving in a Range Rover and two support vehicles, the “hoodlums” used heavy gunfire to clear the area before forcing Abeke into their getaway car.

The violence left one casualty in its wake: Ufuoma, a member of the local vigilante group, who was shot while the attackers made their escape.

He was rushed to a medical facility, but his condition has not yet been confirmed.

Persecondnews learnt that security operatives have locked down all major entry and exit points in Sapele as the hunt for the abducted official intensifies.

The raid comes at a time of high tension; only a day earlier, armed groups had reportedly threatened to unleash violence, leaving the community on edge over the escalating insecurity.
