The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has officially received former Labour Party Vice Presidential Candidate Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, into its ranks, describing his arrival as a significant boost to its agenda for political reform and national renewal.
The party said his inclusion signals a fresh phase in its efforts to reposition itself as a credible alternative in Nigeria’s political space, adding that his experience in governance and public service would strengthen its mobilisation and policy direction.
The National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, of PRP said Baba-Ahmed’s entry, alongside his supporters, would reinforce its advocacy for accountable leadership, improved security architecture and economic recovery.
He said in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday that the party remains open to Nigerians committed to rebuilding the country, stressing that its platform is structured for those who prioritise institutional change and national development.
The move comes after earlier signals of disengagement from the Labour Party structure, where he served as vice-presidential candidate to Peter Obi, amid internal disagreements and uncertainty over the party’s direction.
Persecondnews earlier reported, Baba-Ahmed had publicly indicated that he would be leaving the party, a position that now appears to have materialised with his formal alignment to the PRP, confirming speculation that followed his comments at the time.
Political observers say the development reflects a wider realignment within opposition politics, as key figures reposition ahead of future elections and evolving coalition arrangements.
