In a decisive move at its 8th national convention in Abuja, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ratified a new National Working Committee (NWC) led by Senator David Mark.

Delegates representing all 36 states and the FCT voted overwhelmingly to confirm the leadership team, who will steer the party’s affairs for the next four years.

Beyond the leadership affirmation, the convention served as a platform for constitutional reform, with delegates voting to approve several key amendments.

Mark praised the event’s organization, labeling it the most professional convention of his career.

He framed the gathering as a turning point, signaling the start of the ADC’s journey toward national leadership and calling on all members to stay dedicated to the party’s expansion.

Meanwhile, ADC has expelled Nafiu Bala and others from the party over alleged anti-party activities.

Their expulsion was announced at the party’s 8th National Convention held on Tuesday in Abuja.

A motion for their expulsion was moved and seconded during the convention.

The report of the party’s disciplinary committee, as read at the convention, stated:

“Mr. Nafiu Bala, Odion Kennedy, Mrs. Stella Chukwuma, Johnny, Derek, and Elias have been given time to retrace their actions but have failed to do so.

“Consequently, the Convention is respectfully invited to expel the above-named persons for anti-party activities.
“Pursuant to Article 92 of the Constitution of the Party, which provides that the National Convention shall have the power to suspend or expel any member of the party, exercise control, and take disciplinary action on all individuals, organs, officers, and members of the party.”

A bitter internal rift has divided the ADC, with two rival factions claiming legitimacy.

At the centre of the dispute is a lawsuit filed by Nafiu Bala, which seeks to legally bar Mark’s committee from parading itself as the party’s governing body.
