Kano Power Play: Kwankwaso Joins ADC Ahead of 2027

Former Kano State Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

At a high-profile ceremony on Monday at Gidan Kwankwasiyya in Kano, Kwankwaso formally registered and received his membership card.

The move signals a major shift in the political landscape, as Kwankwaso cited the need for a “strategic realignment” following his departure from the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Bigwigs at the event included ADC National Chairman and former Senate President David Mark, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Senator Dino Melaye and former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.

“Considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the party for their support during his time in the NNPP.

“I extend my deepest appreciation to the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed and the entire National Working Committee for their steadfast support throughout my time,” Kwankwaso said.
