Preparations for the 3rd National Para Games have reached a fever pitch with Presidential spokesperson and former Sports Minister Sunday Dare set to join executives from the National Sports Commission to officially launch the multi-day event.
The opening ceremony, led by NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Bukola Olopade, will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Running from March 26 to April 3, 2026, the Games serve as Nigeria’s premier para-sports showcase.
The event is expected to draw over 3,000 athletes representing all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Persecondnews reports that athletes will battle it out in 15 varied disciplines, ranging from para athletics, wheelchair basketball and para swimming to amputee football, sitting volleyball, para powerlifting and wheelchair tennis, plus several additional events that underline the country’s deepening investment in accessible sports.
The Commission has transformed this event into a premier talent hub, bridging the gap between local potential and international excellence.
By grooming athletes for prestigious arenas like the Paralympics and Commonwealth Games, the competition strengthens Nigeria’s standing in the global sporting community.
At its core, however, the Games are about more than just broken records; they are a celebration of “grit over labels.”
The event champions a more inclusive Nigeria by showcasing the immense talent of athletes with disabilities and advocating for equal opportunity in every sphere of society.
The attendance of these top dignitaries at the opening underscores the Federal Government’s firm resolve to elevate para sports and equip competitors with the support needed to shine both at home and on the world stage.
With excitement mounting across the nation, all eyes are now fixed on Abuja, where displays of bravery, resolve and outstanding performance are poised to take the spotlight.
