Fuel Price Spike: Gov. Makinde Announces ₦10,000 Monthly Subsidy for Workers

119

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a monthly transportation allowance of ₦10,000 for civil servants to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices.

Announcing the move during a stakeholder engagement at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub on Monday, the Governor confirmed that the payments will commence in March and run for an initial three-month period.

Detailed disbursement guidelines will be released shortly through official government channels.

This intervention is a direct response to the global energy crisis sparked by the February 28 outbreak of hostilities involving Israel, the USA, and Iran.

This conflict caused international oil prices to surge, pushing Nigerian pump prices from ₦860 to as high as ₦1,500 per litre.

By addressing the resulting spike in transport fares, Governor Makinde aims to protect worker welfare and ensure productivity across all state ministries and agencies.
