President Bola Tinubu has extended his warmest birthday greetings to Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu, the renowned economist, banker, and philanthropist, ahead of his birthday on Sunday, March 22.
In a statement released on Saturday obtained by Persecondnews, the President commended Elumelu’s significant contributions to the African business landscape, highlighting his role in driving economic growth and entrepreneurship across the continent.
Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement, quoted President Tinubu as describing the honouree as “an African business icon and a standout advocate of the Nigerian and African enterprise.”
Onanuga added that the President applauded Elumelu’s “resilience, the excellence that governs his entire enterprise and his staunch belief in Africapitalism.”
The Nigerian leader lauded the business mogul strong focus on youth empowerment, especially through the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s flagship entrepreneurship programme.
“The programme has so far trained 2.5 million young Africans in 54 countries and empowered over 24,000 budding African entrepreneurs with non-refundable seed capital of $5,000 each,” Onanuga said.
Elumelu currently chairs Heirs Holdings, United Bank for Africa and Transcorp, and also founded the Tony Elumelu Foundation that drives the continent-wide initiative.
Onanuga added by noting that President Tinubu, together with Elumelu’s family and associates, wished the celebrator “good health and strength and continued success in his pursuits.”
