Just In: Blaze Breaks Out at Federal Head of Service Office in Abuja

A Monday morning blaze at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service in Abuja sparked widespread travel chaos near the Federal Secretariat.

The fire, which broke out around 8:00 a.m. in Section C of the complex, sent thick black smoke billowing from the upper floors and drew an immediate emergency response.

As firefighters battled the inferno, security teams diverted traffic, paralyzing nearby roads.

The resulting gridlock forced many commuters to abandon their vehicles and complete their journeys on foot.

Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the intense traffic was a direct fallout of the fire.

“We are currently managing the situation,” an officer stated, as staff and visitors were evacuated from the premises to allow emergency teams to work.

The Media Department of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service confirmed the blaze was localized to Section C of the complex.

Fire service officials corroborated this, noting that teams were dispatched immediately upon receiving the call. “Our personnel are on-site and actively working to extinguish the flames,” a spokesperson said.

While the fire is being brought under control, the cause remains unknown.

Authorities have stated that a full investigation will be launched once the building is secured.
