Two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has paid an emotional visit to the very venue that launched his legendary career, reuniting with his first trainer Sean Murphy at the Finchley Amateur Boxing Club.

Months after surviving a catastrophic car accident in Nigeria on December 29, the 36-year-old British-Nigerian star made his return.

Persecondnews recalls that the tragedy—which occurred just days after his high-profile victory against Jake Paul in Miami—claimed the lives of two close members of his team: personal trainer Kevin “Latz” Ayodele and longtime therapist Sina Ghami.

In the aftermath of the incident, the fighter has dedicated himself to rigorous physical rehabilitation to mend rib injuries suffered during the crash.

His decision to resume sessions at Finchley highlights a fresh determination to rebuild his strength and reconnect with the very beginnings of his path in the sport.

Joshua posted a series of photos and video clips from inside the club on Instagram, with one update carrying the simple caption: “Quality time with Sean Murphy.”

The heavyweight first entered the Finchley Amateur Boxing Club at age 18 while searching for purpose after facing difficulties during his youth in London.

Murphy immediately recognised his raw talent and helped shape his skills across the amateur ranks, steering him to national championships that set the stage for Olympic success.

Working under Team GB head coach Rob McCracken, Joshua claimed gold at the 2012 London Olympics.

Those early triumphs in unpaid boxing paved the way for a glittering professional run that included winning several heavyweight world titles.

Throughout his pro career, the boxer has experienced several coaching shifts.

He parted company with Murphy following a loss to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 before linking up with high-profile figures including Robert Garcia and Derrick James.

Most recently, Ben Davison handled his corner for clashes against Francis Ngannou, Jake Paul and Daniel Dubois.

This return to Finchley and reconnection with his original coach stands as a powerful symbolic homecoming, as Joshua continues his healing journey and gears up for the next chapter in his boxing story.
