Rivers State lawmakers have abruptly frozen the impeachment process launched against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention.
The decision to suspend the process followed a motion unanimously passed on Thursday when the Assembly reconvened for its continued sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital.
Persecondnews recalls that during their first meeting in 2026, members had initiated the impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy.
They cited what they called grave allegations of official misconduct that included the controversial demolition of the State Assembly building and unauthorised spending without approval from the legislature, among others.
