Vice-President Kashim Shettima has challenged Nigerians to leverage the rare alignment of the Muslim and Christian fasting seasons to foster national cohesion.
Characterizing the period as a strategic window for spiritual and civic revival, the Vice-President’s Thursday message obtained by Persecondnews stressed the importance of hands-on care for fellow citizens.
He further asserted that these holy observances must be more than symbolic, calling for a transition from ritual to tangible efforts in addressing national issues.
“Let us not only feed the hungry but uplift the weary; not only give charity but extend kindness; not only pray for peace but work for justice. This is the true essence of Ramadan,” he said.
The Vice-President characterized the holy month of Ramadan as a period for deep soul-searching and the adoption of Islamic principles such as harmony and self-sacrifice.
He lauded religious leaders across the federation, describing them as the moral pillars of society.
Highlighting the significance of both Islam and Christianity observing their most intense seasons of devotion, Shettima urged these leaders and their followers to engage in intercessory prayers focused on the peace and stability of the Nigerian state.
“We must strengthen the bonds that unite us and reject the forces that seek to divide us.”
Shettima specifically called on Nigerians to offer fervent prayers for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asking for divine “wisdom, strength, and foresight” to guide the President in steering the affairs of the nation.
