All worshippers abducted from three churches in the Kurmin Wali community of Kaduna State have finally regained their freedom, according to local sources.
The mass kidnapping occurred on January 18, when gunmen stormed the churches and took approximately 167 people hostage.
While the police initially denied the incident took place, they later confirmed the abduction.
Persecondnews recalls that the release had occurred in phases – a community source noted that 80 worshippers were freed on February 1, with the remaining captives released shortly thereafter.
The Kaduna State government is currently providing the survivors with medical care and psychosocial support to aid their recovery.
Governor Uba Sani confirmed the release of 82 worshippers, assuring that efforts are ongoing to address the insecurity issue in the state.
