In a major political realignment, Peter Obi has formally parted ways with the Labour Party to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Making the announcement in Enugu on the final day of 2025, the former presidential contender confirmed his alignment with the ADC-led coalition. Obi characterized the move as a mission-driven decision, aimed at building a robust platform to “rescue and transform” the nation as the race for 2027 begins to take shape..

“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” he declared.

“We will resist rigging of election by every lawful means in 2027, he added.

Emphasizing the need for a cohesive political strategy, Obi urged opposition stakeholders to align under the leadership of David Mark to advance the national rescue mission.

The defection ceremony in Enugu drew an influential crowd, including former Senate President Mark, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, and a broad coalition of former South-East governors.

Also present to witness the transition were prominent political figures such as Emeka Ihedioha, Senators Ben Obi, Victor Umeh, Tony Nwoye, and Sam Egwu, and veteran politician Chief Onyema Ugochukwu.
