Nigeria Dominates African Youth Games in Angola, Wins Big

Team Nigeria has made a remarkable impression at the 4th African Youth Games in Luanda, Angola, showcasing exceptional talent and determination.

The country’s young athletes have dominated various categories, securing impressive victories and medals.

In weightlifting, Nigeria swept the medals on Day One, winning eight gold and one silver.

Favour Cornelius led the charge in the 44kg category, clinching three gold medals with lifts of 50kg in the snatch and 64kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 114kg.

Esther Chidalu Ezenwa also delivered an outstanding performance in the 48kg category, securing three gold medals with lifts of 63kg and 77kg, totaling 140kg.

“We are extremely proud of these young lifters. Winning eight gold medals and one silver on the first day is a clear statement of our preparation and potential,” said Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Aladi, President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation in a statement on Friday.

In athletics, Team Nigeria continued to shine, winning six gold and five silver medals.

The country’s young athletes demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience, further solidifying Nigeria’s reputation as a sporting powerhouse.

National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko praised the athletes, saying, “Nigeria has a rich sporting heritage. Across the globe, Nigerian athletes continue to exemplify our ‘can-do’ spirit, and this is who we are.”
