The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to make history with a staggering $655 million prize fund, a nearly 50% increase from the previous tournament.
This record-breaking financial contribution from FIFA will see the winning team take home $50 million, while the runners-up will receive $33 million.
“The FIFA World Cup 2026 will also be groundbreaking in terms of its financial contribution to the global football community,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
This massive investment in the tournament is expected to benefit 48 participating nations, with each team receiving an additional $1.5 million to cover preparation costs.
The prize money distribution has been structured to reward teams for their performance, with third-place finishers collecting $29 million and semi-finalists receiving $27 million.
Teams eliminated in the group phase will still receive $9 million, ensuring that all participating nations benefit financially.
The 2026 World Cup will be hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, marking the first time three countries have co-hosted the tournament.
The event is expected to generate significant revenue, with FIFA forecasting $8.9 billion in total revenue.
