Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Sen. Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, has been reported dead few hours after collapsing in his office.

The deputy governor, who was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, was in the ICU before he was confirmed dead on Thursday evening.

Born on September 5, 1965, Ewhrudjakpo had served as a senator before assuming the Deputy Governor role in 2020.

Meanwhile, Ogun Governor and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed shock and sorrow over the death of Bayelsa Deputy Governor.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta, Abiodun said he received the news of Ewhrudjakpo’s death at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where he had been rushed after slumping in his office that afternoon.

The governor described the incident as particularly painful, noting that the deputy governor was attending to his official duties when he collapsed, seemingly defying illness to serve the people of Bayelsa State.

While commiserating with the Bayelsa Governor, Sen. Douye Diri, who is currently out of the country, the government, and the people of Bayelsa State, Abiodun urged them to take solace in the life of service that Ewhrudjakpo lived.

Persecondnews recalls that the deceased deputy governor, a member of the PDP, had refused to defect to the APC with the governor back in November.
