Controversial singer Portable has demanded a DNA test to establish the paternity of the children he had with his former partner, Ashabi Simple, insisting that he does not trust her enough to accept the children as his without scientific confirmation.
The singer made the demand in a series of voice notes and messages between the estranged lovers which surfaced on Friday, with Portable questioning Ashabi’s movements during the period they were together.
“I don’t trust you. Even when you were in my house, you hardly sleep at home for five days. How am I sure these children are mine even if they look like me?” Portable said in one of the voice notes.
The singer, who appeared unconvinced by the physical resemblance between him and the children, said he would not simply accept the children as his based on their appearance.
“I don’t fall for such. Let us take them to hospital for proper DNA,” he added, making it clear that he wanted the matter settled through a paternity test.
Ashabi, who appeared to be pleading with Portable during the exchanges, reportedly tried to convince the singer to take responsibility for the children, but he remained firm on his demand for a DNA test.
Portable’s insistence has now thrown the paternity of the children into fresh controversy, coming amid the latest fallout between the singer and Ashabi, who have previously had a highly publicised relationship.
The singer’s argument centred on his distrust of Ashabi, particularly his claim that she did not consistently stay at his house during their relationship, which he presented as a reason for seeking scientific confirmation of the children’s paternity.
Despite Ashabi’s pleas in the leaked exchanges, Portable did not appear ready to change his position, repeatedly making it clear that he wanted the DNA test conducted before accepting responsibility.
