Nigeria’s Falconets demolished England 3-0 in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, with Janet Akekoromowei named Player of the Match after a clinical knockout display.
Tosin Rafiu broke the deadlock in the 8th minute with a strike already being tipped as a Goal of the Tournament contender.
The midfielder raced down the left wing, cut inside, wriggled clear of England’s defence and blasted a fierce drive beyond goalkeeper Katie Cox.
Two minutes into the second half, Benfica striker Akekoromowei made it 2-0 with a rasping left-foot volley, her second goal of the tournament.
Substitute Mary Mamudu wrapped it up with 17 minutes left, sealing a fully merited triumph for Moses Aduku’s side.
PerSecondNews reports that Nigeria will now meet the winner of the Poland-Colombia tie in the quarter-finals in Lodz on Sunday.
