In a move that offers political parties a brief reprieve, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for submitting Presidential and National Assembly candidate details by three days.

The decision was made public on Sunday in a statement issued by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.

The commission noted that the deadline, which expired on Saturday, July 11, has been extended to midnight on Tuesday, July 14.

INEC said it approved the extension after the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) sought additional time for political parties that were unable to complete the upload of their candidates’ names and details before the original deadline.

It stressed that the additional time demonstrates the commission’s resolve to accommodate political parties while remaining guided by the law.

“The Commission enjoins political parties to take advantage of this window of opportunity and ensure that all necessary details are uploaded before the expiration of the new deadline,” it stated.

Persecondnews recalls that INEC had fixed Saturday, July 11, as the deadline for political parties to submit the lists and details of their candidates under the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election.
