As the countdown to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games gathers pace, a new broadcast partnership promises to deliver the excitement of Team Nigeria’s campaign directly into millions of living rooms across the country at absolutely no cost to viewers.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) on Friday in Abuja joined forces with What Network to secure free-to-air broadcast rights for the Games in Nigeria.
Live action will be transmitted via the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), TV Continental (TVC) and other terrestrial stations that express interest, complemented by online streaming options for those preferring digital platforms.
Bukola Olopade, NSC Director General, hailed the collaboration as pivotal in connecting the public with their athletes.
“Recognising the importance of bringing the Games into every Nigerian home, the National Sports Commission has partnered with The What Network to deliver free-to-air coverage of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.”
He added that the initiative would foster a deeper connection between Nigerians and the national team.

“Through this collaboration, every Nigerian will be able to follow Team Nigeria’s journey live and free, celebrating the dedication of our athletes and inspiring the next generation of sporting champions.”
Coverage is set to commence with the Opening Ceremony on July 23 and will span the full schedule of the Games.
Complementing the live transmissions will be a daily two-hour highlights programme that captures the biggest moments, medal-winning performances, athlete interviews and exclusive behind-the-scenes content from Glasgow.
The arrangement reflects the NSC’s resolve to make major global sporting events accessible to ordinary Nigerians while rallying widespread support for the country’s representatives on one of the premier multi-sport stages.
Nigeria’s team will feature several standout performers, including world record holder Tobi Amusan, sprint star Kayinsola Ajayi, shot put standout Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and para-weightlifting star Folashade Oluwafemiayo.
They will be joined by other elite competitors in athletics, boxing, cycling, swimming, weightlifting and para sports.
With this free access model, the Commission hopes not only to celebrate the current crop of athletes but also to ignite passion among young Nigerians who can now easily tune in and dream of following in their footsteps.
