The Presidency has dismissed Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew as an alleged impostor accused of running a fictitious presidential agency, forging official appointment letters, and parading himself as a government appointee.

In a strongly worded statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said Adeyemi falsely claimed to be Director-General of a non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, also presented as the Presidential Economic Advisory Council.

According to the statement, the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President first raised the alarm after complaints from the Nigerian Investment Promotion Council that another so-called agency was operating in conflict with its mandate.

The Chief of Staff, in an October 17 petition to the DSS and Police, called for a full investigation into what he described as the activities of “fraudsters and impostors” allegedly forging appointment letters from his office.

The Presidency said Adeyemi used the fake documents to hold meetings with Nigerians and foreigners, operate from an office at the Federal Secretariat Complex, and even seek a note verbale from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate United States visas for himself and his staff.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also raised concerns after Adeyemi reportedly met with ambassadors at the Wells Carlton Hotel in Abuja without official clearance, describing the action as a breach of diplomatic protocol.

Police investigations later led to Adeyemi’s arrest on October 27, 2025, at his Secretariat office. Searches of his office and home in Suleja reportedly uncovered documents and exhibits linked to the alleged scam.

Investigators said Adeyemi operated 34 bank accounts, nine of them in the names of fictitious agencies. He was also accused of fraudulently opening a CBN account by misleading the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation. However, police said no government funds had been transferred into the account.

The Police have since filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi and two alleged accomplices at the Federal High Court in Abuja. He is expected in court on July 27.

The Presidency said Adeyemi’s latest claim that he was appointed by the Chief of Staff is false and contradicts his earlier statement to the police. It urged politicians and members of the public not to weaponise his claims or accept his narrative without waiting for the court process.

Onanuga described the matter as “a clear case of a con artist” who allegedly built a web of false claims to deceive government officials, foreign contacts, and the public.
