Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the immediate past governor of Delta State, has been spotted at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) Lagos Directorate 1 office on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi.

A senior source within the commission indicated that Okowa’s presence is tied to an ongoing investigation into allegations of fraud and abuse of office.

The anti-graft agency has been investigating the former governor since he left office over the alleged diversion of ₦1.3 trillion in 13% derivation funds between 2015 and 2023.

He was previously arrested on November 4, 2024, and questioned at the EFCC’s Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate.

According to the source, Okowa visited the Lagos office in an attempt to recover his international passport so he could travel abroad for urgent medical treatment.

It remains unclear whether the commission granted his request or returned the document.

Efforts to reach EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale for official comment were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered.

The ₦1.3 trillion case is one of the commission’s highest-profile probes into how former public officials allegedly mismanaged state oil revenues.
