Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili has braved a fierce headwind to claim the women’s 200m title at the LA Grand Prix in 22.45 seconds, securing her first win over the distance in the 2026 season.

The challenging conditions, with a headwind measured at 3.1 metres per second, tested every athlete in the field.

Despite the resistance, Ofili powered ahead to leave her rivals well behind, a dominant finish that put her world-class form on full display.

Gemima Joseph finished second in 22.88 seconds while fellow Nigerian Rosemary Chukwuma completed a strong showing for the country by taking third place in 22.94 seconds.

Ofili’s victory under difficult circumstances marks a significant early-season statement.

It provides valuable momentum as she builds towards the rest of her 2026 campaign.
