Panic gripped the National Assembly on Wednesday after a fire broke out in the Senate wing of the complex.
The incident occurred in Hearing Room 107 shortly after the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) concluded its screening of Dr. Zainab Marwa, a nominee representing the North-East on the commission’s board.
Footage from the scene showed quick-thinking National Assembly staff using portable fire extinguishers to battle the flames.
No injuries or casualties have been reported at the time of this report.
According to TVC News, the fire was likely triggered by a microwave left running in the kitchen area.
In the wake of the incident, committee officials reportedly ordered journalists covering the National Assembly to delete any photos and video footage they had captured of the outbreak.
