In another major blow to transnational drug cartels, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives have intercepted a high-potency illicit drug shipment hidden inside water purifier machines.
The contraband was smuggled into Lagos from the Netherlands.
NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed details of the successful interdiction in a statement shared with Persecondnews on Sunday.
According to the agency, the illicit consignments, consisting mainly of ketamine weighing three kilograms and 199 grams of MDMA, popularly known as ecstasy pills, were carefully hidden inside the water purifier machines in an apparent attempt to beat security checks.
The drugs were discovered and seized at a courier company in Lagos on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
Meanwhile, in Kaduna State, anti-narcotics operatives swooped on a residence in the Gonin Gora area, leading to the arrest of a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, as well as another suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, 38.
The operation resulted in the recovery of 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 1,246 kilograms on Sunday, May 24.
Similarly, in Kaduna, NDLEA officers conducting patrol operations along the Abuja-Kaduna highway near Jere intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, allegedly transporting 380 rounds of military-grade 7.62mm ammunition to Katsina State.
The agency said the suspect and the exhibit had since been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.
Elsewhere, in Niger State, operatives acting on intelligence raided a warehouse in Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Government Area, where 457 kilograms of skunk were uncovered on Wednesday, May 27.

In connection with the seizure, a suspect, Godwin Zakka, 46, was later arrested at his residence in the Gbeganu area of Minna.
Also, operatives on patrol along the Onitsha-Enugu expressway in Enugu State on Thursday, May 28, intercepted a Taraba State-bound commercial vehicle marked JAY-158-YF.
A total of 22,000 pills of tramadol, 100 ampoules of pentazocine and 200 grams of bromazepam were recovered from the vehicle, while a suspect, James Maigari Wisdom, was arrested.
The NDLEA said its commands and formations across the country also sustained the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaign through advocacy programmes held in schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities during the past week.
The activities included WADA enlightenment lectures for students and staff of Government Secondary School, Adiabo, Cross River State; St Patrick’s Memorial College, Wukari, Taraba State; Roman Catholic Mission Nursery and Primary School, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State; and Kings Secondary School, Amawbia, Anambra State, among others.
Retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, lauded officers and personnel of the Kaduna, Niger and Enugu Commands, as well as those of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI), for the arrests and seizures.
He also commended their drug supply reduction efforts, which he said were balanced with WADA sensitization activities, while urging them and their counterparts across the country not to relent in the ongoing fight against illicit drugs.
