President Bola Tinubu has praised the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, calling them a vivid display of the party’s dedication to grassroots participation and internal democracy.
Speaking to journalists during the primary elections on Saturday, the President expressed his satisfaction with the peaceful, orderly conduct across various states, noting that the process has closely followed democratic ideals and party rules.
According to Tinubu, the primaries have successfully empowered everyday party members to actively guide the ruling party’s leadership and future direction.
“This is a demonstration of internal democracy and it has been going very well according to plan,” Tinubu stated.
“This is politics, grassroots politics, where every member of the party has a right to participate and be involved. It is to ensure that we have internal democracy, and it is peaceful and well-organised.”
The President also praised state governors and party leaders for overseeing what he described as a credible and transparent process across the federation.
When asked if he was pleased with the nationwide primaries, Tinubu replied that the exercise had met expectations and showcased the APC’s growing democratic maturity.
“Today, I am very satisfied, very, very satisfied that these governors have done well in their various states,” he said.
“In fact, from the ward congresses to local government congresses, delegate accreditation, validation, membership register and certification of the electoral process, it has all gone very well.
“At least, you will score democracy at a high level.”
The President further noted that the enthusiastic participation and support shown by party faithful across the country served as encouragement for the party leadership to deepen democratic ideals and strengthen internal cohesion ahead of future elections.
