In anticipation of travel surge ahead of Eid El-Kabir, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has launched a nationwide special patrol. More than 30,000 personnel have been deployed to minimize traffic congestion, accidents, and fatalities.

The deployment, which includes Regular and Special Marshals, is part of the Corps’ annual festive season intervention designed to ensure safer highways and improved traffic management.

In a statement issued on Saturday and obtained by Persecondnews, the FRSC said the exercise is aimed at reducing crashes and other highway emergencies associated with increased vehicular movement during the Sallah period.

According to the Corps, Patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, motorcycles, radar guns and breathalysers have been deployed to strategic locations nationwide to support rapid response and enforcement activities.

Zonal Commanding Officers, Sector Commanders and Unit Commanders have been directed to maintain high visibility patrols and ensure full coverage of identified corridors throughout the operation.

The Corps also added that enforcement will target speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phones while driving, mechanically deficient vehicles, expired tyres, passenger manifest violations and other traffic offences linked to road crashes.

Mobile courts will also operate nationwide to ensure swift prosecution of offenders during the exercise.

The operation is scheduled to run from May 25 to May 31, 2026.
