In a move aimed at strengthening digital transformation within the examination system and greater inclusion of younger professionals in leadership, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed 39-year-old Prof. Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, announced this on Thursday in a statement obtained by
Persecondnews.

It described the appointment as part of efforts to improve institutional efficiency and modernise examination processes.

“He is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public sector institutional reform,” the statement said.

Aina who turns 40 in July, holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom.

He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina began his engagement with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), where he gained early exposure to admissions systems and data driven institutional processes.

According to the Presidency, his career has been defined by work at the intersection of technology, policy, and institutional reform, including advisory roles to federal and state governments.

“With over 15 years of post graduation experience, Professor Aina operates at the intersection of technology, policy, and institutional transformation,” the statement said.

He has also consulted for examination bodies including NECO and NABTEB, as well as several state Ministries of Education, focusing on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.

At 39, he is among Nigeria’s youngest Computer Engineering professors and is expected to drive reforms at JAMB.

Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including COREN, NSE, IEEE, and IET.

The Presidency said it expected him to strengthen operations and deepen reforms in the examination body.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the operations of the Board, to take the critical educational organisation beyond the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor,” it further stated.

The appointment positions him to succeed the outgoing Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, whose second-term tenure is expected to expire at the end of July 2026.
