The Federal Government has fixed the minimum age for entry into universities and other tertiary institutions at 18 years.

FG instructed the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to immediately implement the new policy, guaranteeing admission to tertiary institutions for only students over 18.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, stated this on Thursday in Abuja at the ongoing policy meeting.

He blamed underage students for some of the issues affecting the nation’s higher institutions.

University leaders, registrars, admission officers, and other stakeholders in attendance at the policy meeting widely disapproved and criticized Mamman’s announcement.

The meeting, which brings together heads of tertiary institutions and key stakeholders from across the country, plays a crucial role in shaping the admissions process for higher education institutions nationwide.
